こんにちは、Rayです。私はドイツで音楽の勉強をしている大学院生で、オーボエという楽器を専攻しています。

グローバル社会になっている現代、ドイツでは日本と同じようなものを購入したりサービスを利用したりすることができます。ただその同じようなものの中にも若干の違いを見つけて面白いなと感じることもよくあります。今日は日用品をテーマに重箱の隅をつつくようにその違いをご紹介します。

Amazonドイツがあります

アメリカ発の通販サイトのアマゾン Amazonですが、ドイツにもあります。しかし、いくつかはっきりとした違いがあります。

まずはアカウントから。日本とドイツのAmazonは同じアカウントから利用することはできないので、別の新しいアカウントを作る必要がありました。ただ、ドイツのAmazonのアカウントがあれば日本以外の地域のAmazonにログインすることができるようです。万が一将来国際引っ越しなどをすることになった場合には便利かと思います。

そして次はプライム会員料金。日本もドイツも学生会員という枠はあります。その料金は年間プランの場合日本では2,450円なのに対し、ドイツは34ユーロ（執筆時のレートで約4,400円）です。物価はほぼ同じくらいなので、ドイツのプライム会員料金は割高に感じます。ただし、私がAmazonドイツに登録したときは学生会員の特典として一年間の無料期間がありました。現在は日本と同じく６ヶ月間に変更されています。

日本で選べる「プライムお急ぎ便」はドイツにはないため、注文した当日に届くことはありません。また、Amazonドイツで表示された到着予想日時よりも遅くなることも普通にあるので、私は余裕をもってお買い物するようにしています。

配送は郵便や宅配便によるシステムですが、受け取れなかった場合は近くの支店や配送センターに持ち帰られてしまいます。再配達などはしてもらえず、不在票をもって自分で受け取りに行きます。配達日時の指定などもできないので、かさばる荷物が届く日には家でじりじりと待つことになります。日本の至れり尽くせりな配送サービスの有難さが身に沁みます。

丈夫なティッシュペーパー

左がドイツの、右が日本のティッシュ。日本のティッシュは花の写真が透けている事がわかります。

ドイツのティッシュペーパーは、４枚重ねでとても丈夫です。レストランの紙ナフキンよりは少し柔らかい、くらいのものです。日本のティッシュペーパーに慣れている私は硬さともったいなさを感じるので、2枚ずつに分けて使うこともあります。

これは私の推論ですが、ドイツのティッシュが分厚いのはハンカチのように使うためだと思っています。幼いころ読んだヨーロッパの児童文学にハンカチで鼻をかむ描写が頻繁に出てきたことと、現代のドイツではハンカチを持ち歩く習慣があまりないことから、鼻をかんでも涙を拭いても破れない、ハンカチに替わるものが必要だからだと考えます。

ちなみに分厚いティッシュは香港でも見たことがあります。日本のように薄い繊細なティッシュを使っている国が他にあるのか、ティッシュの勢力分布図が少し気になります。

トイレットペーパーも丈夫

ドイツのスーパーや薬局でよく見るトイレットペーパーは大抵3枚重ねか4枚重ねです。シングル、ダブルを見るのは公共施設のトイレなどで、それらがどこで販売されているのか私にはさっぱりわかりません。ティッシュと同様丈夫でよいのですが、もったいないかもしれないと少し申し訳ない気持ちにもなります。

クリアファイル、ブックエンド、パイプ枕

これらは、街を探してもなかなか見つからないものです。クリアファイルに至っては文房具屋さんに行っても二穴ファイルやプラスチック製のオーガナイザーの周りにも置いてあるのを見たことは一度もありません。ドイツでは紙製のファイルに資料を挟んでいる人をよく見かけます。これだとクリアファイルに比べると少しかさばるので、私はまだ慣れることができずにいます。

ただ先日ドイツで初めて無印良品の店に行ってみた時に、久しぶりにクリアファイルを見つけました。その時は嬉しくて、思わず飛びついてしまいました。

スチール製のブックエンドは日本でなら100均でもどこでも売っているありふれた商品ですが、ドイツではこれまでに通販でしか見たことがありません。ドイツのオフィスなどを見る感じでは、皆さんファイルボックスを使って整頓しています。

私はパイプ枕を買いたくてドイツに来てからずっと探していますが、残念ながらまだ見かけたことはありません。ドイツにもいろいろな素材の枕があるので低反発まくらなど試してみればいい話ですが、どうしても昔から使って慣れているものに勝るものを見つけることができずにいます。

タオルや上着の襟ぐりには…

ドイツで買うタオルの端や上着の襟ぐりには、フックに掛けるための丈夫な輪っかが縫い付けられています。日本でドイツ発祥のブランド（アディダス、ナイキなど）の上着を買ったことがないのでわかりませんが、それらの服には基本的に輪っかがついているのでしょうか？それともドイツで流通している商品についているのでしょうか？次回日本に行った時に検証してみようと思います。

髪を染めてみたけれど

髪を染めるとお手入れやプリン対策が面倒だろうな、と思いこれまで一度も髪を染めたことはありませんでした。ところが先月ドラッグストアに立ち寄った際に、ロシア人の友人にお勧めのメーカーを教えてもらいヘアカラー剤を衝動買いしてしまいました。

その日の夜に早速挑戦したのですが、残念ながら私の髪の色は全く変わりませんでした！と言うのも私が手に取った色はチョコブラウン、要するにこげ茶、しかもヨーロッパ・ドイツにいる人のスタンダードである「ブロンド、ウェーブもかかりやすい細い」髪の毛用のカラー剤だったのです。私の「真っ黒、しっかりとした太い」髪の毛にはだいぶ弱かったようでした。後日友人何人かに見てもらっても違いを感じてもらえることはありませんでした。

ただ唯一良かったことは、弱めの剤だったので私の敏感肌にも刺激はなく、怖いと思っていたアレルギー反応が出なかったことです。次回は同じメーカーのびっくりするくらい明るい色に挑戦してみようと思います！（それで想定外に明るすぎる色になったらどうしよう、とは思いますが、いい塩梅となることを願っています。）

まとめ

雨が続いていたドイツでの久しぶりの暖かい晴れの日。虹が見られました。

基本的な生活用品は、不自由なく手に入る中にも細かな違いがあり、それがその土地で暮らす人の文化に基づいていることを感じます。まだ他にもたくさん書きたい違いがあるので次回9月18日(土)は続編をお届けしたいと思います。最後までお読みいただきありがとうございました。
